The mid-size sedan segment is in a state of flux with several new models introduced recently. The 2021 Nissan Altima is one of the most recent models to hit the market.
To stand out, it promises a host of safety technologies, more efficient engines, a style that will stand out in traffic and a brand-new all-wheel-drive system. Yes, you read that correctly, the 2021 Nissan Altima is offered with AWD.
The latter will provide much better stability for the Nissan sedan when the road is slippery in addition to offering handling in all situations. The Altima becomes only the second mid-size sedan to offer the all-wheel-drive series in its segment.
The Nissan Altima is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder developing 182 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. Although this engine seems, on paper, not to be so different from the old engine propelling the Altima, Nissan says that 80% of the components are new.
"To develop the new 2.5L engine, we started by reviewing the basic features one by one, such as the design of the combustion chamber. In the end, we get better performance and lower fuel consumption that is significantly better than the previous engine - in addition to improved NVH (noise, vibration and roughness) and greater flexibility in the design of the front," said José Muñoz, Director of Performance at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
The new Altima also offers a host of security enhancements starting with the addition of ProPilot ASSIST. The latter is a group of high-end driver assistance systems that is significantly more advanced than what we find elsewhere in the segment. In particular, the system has the ability to keep you in your lane by automatically adjusting the steering and automatically braking in case of danger.
